Nidderdale Way

Nidderdale Way

Nidderdale Way

author: Beth Rimmer
The Yorkshire Dales is a famously beautiful part of northern England, but Nidderdale is perhaps the least known of the valleys. This unique dale has three large reservoirs formed by damming the River Nidd. It boasts impressive natural features such as Brimham Rocks, Guise Cliff and How Stean Gorge, and it's rich in human heritage, from mining to textile mills.

This 54-mile waymarked circuit starts and ends in the market town of Pateley Bridge, and can be walked comfortably over four to six days. The book is lavishly illustrated with over 95 colour photos and has all you need to plan and enjoy your walking holiday including the following:

Concise navigation directions printed on rainproof paper.
Sixteen pages with detailed route mapping at 1:45,000 scale
Background on the River Nidd, minerals and textiles.
A four-page section on habitats and wildlife.
Contact details for accommodation and transport.
Link routes from Ripon and Knaresborough.

The book gives suggestions for four, five and six day itineraries but the route is divided into four stages in the text each beginning with a panel giving distance, terrain, grade, food and drink options, and a short route summary. These stages are as follows:
Pateley Bridge to Middlesmoor - 14.7 miles
Middlesmoor to Bewerley - 11.7 miles
Bewerley to Ripley - 13.4 miles
Ripley to Pateley Bridge - 14.2 miles

Link Routes
