Walks for all Ages in Devon

Walks for all Ages in Devon

by: Rachael Rowe
Ancient green lanes, mystical moorland trails and dramatic clifftop paths draw walkers to Devon each year, captivated by the beauty of the county. This is diverse walking country where sea spray and rich farmland combine to form some of the finest trails in England. Devon is home to the Tarka Trail and the South West Coast Footpath but has many smaller walks packed with history, views, and culture.

The Devon countryside has much to offer walkers and is renowned for its deceptive hills that are steeper than they look. But there's a reward at the end of a Devonian walk that goes beyond a tempting tearoom or a dip in the sea. It is the feeling of getting under the skin of a place by wandering the trails and spending time observing nature, seeing local traditions, and learning about the history as they combine to create a captivating walk.

Each of the 20 circular walks in the book begins with a description of the local area, followed by fully detailed route instructions. Full colour Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale Explorer mapping supports the text and there are snippets of useful information as you go along. The book also has lots of colour photographs throughout. At the beginning of each walk practical information listed includes distance, gradient, difficulty, approximate time, number of stiles, OS Explorer map number, path description, start point grid reference, parking information, suitability for dogs and local facilities.
