This excellent guidebook describes 35 walks exploring the Peak District gritstone and moorland landscapes. The Dark Peak within the Peak District, Britain's first National Park, is made up of gritstone and peat with high moorland, wilderness areas, solitude and big open skies. The landscape has a tendency to brood menacingly then flood you with sunshine and warmth.

This comprehensive guide is divided into four regions, each with an introductory walk followed by medium length routes to really explore the different landscapes of the Dark Peak. There are also more challenging walks that will test both navigation and stamina. In addition to these 35 days walks, a further 5 long distance routes are outlined. A panel at the beginning of each walk entry gives start location with grid reference, distance, ascent, time, terrain, OS Explorer map sheet number, refreshment options and parking. There is then a short synopsis of the walk features before the detailed step-by-step route finding text. OS 1:50000 scale full colour maps outlining the route are also included. The book is also illustrated with many colour photographs and includes a route summary table.
