Walking Close to the Norfolk Broads - Southern Area Guidebook

Walking Close to the Norfolk Broads - Southern Area Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide describes ten varied and interesting circular walks within the southern half of the Norfolk Broads including Lowestoft, Beccles, Bungay, Chedgrave, Acle and the three main rivers of the Norfolk Broads, the Yare, Bure and Waveney. The walks are between 4 and 9 miles in length.

The area is rich in associations with Charles Dickens and particularly the novel 'David Copperfield'. The novelist is thought to have set scenes for the book locally. David Copperfield spends his early years in Blundeston (walk 2 in this guide) and the village sign in Blundeston depicts a young David. The Peggotty family live in an upturned boat on Yarmouth beach.

The walk locations are:
South Walsham Broad and Upton Fen - 6.5 miles
Somerleyton and Blundeston - 7.5 miles
Barnby and the River Waveney - 6 miles
Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve and Peto's Marsh - 4.25 miles
Halvergate and Berney Arms - 9.25 miles
Acle and Tunstall Dike - 6.5 miles
Bungay, Earsham and the Waveney Horseshoe - 5.5 miles
Beccles and Geldeston Lock - 7.75 miles
Loddon Staithe, Chedgrave and Hardley Flood - 8 miles
Acle, Upton and Fishley Marshes - 4.75 miles
