Walking Close to South East Devon Coast Guidebook

Walking Close to South East Devon Coast Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are simple and detailed and include clear pencil drawn sketch maps.

This guide describes eleven varied and interesting circular walks in the countryside close to the south east Devon coast around Sidmouth, Branscombe and Beer. The walks are between 4 and 8 miles in length. 180 million years of geological history are on display along the Jurassic Coast, the 95 miles of coastline between Exmouth in east Devon and Swanage in Dorset. The shoreline between Beer and Budleigh Salterton is characterised by a switchback series of high cliffs sandwiched between steep sided valleys running down to the sea. The white chalk and limestone around Beer and Branscombe give way to the red sandstone cliffs further west.

The locations are:
Beer and Branscombe - 5 miles
Knapp Copse Nature Reserve and Farway - 7.5 miles
Salcombe Regis and Weston Mouth - 5 miles
Branscombe, Weston and Coxe's Cliff - 6 miles
East Budleigh and Otterton - 8.25 miles
Sidbury and Sid Valley - 6.25 miles
Colyton and Ox Hill - 7 miles
Ottery St Mary - 6.25 miles
Branscombe and Berry Camp - 5 miles
Bowd and Beacon Hill - 3.75 miles
Sidmouth and Seven Stones - 3.75 miles
