The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide describes ten varied and interesting circular walks close to the River Welland near Market Harborough. The walks are mainly between 4 and 8 miles in length. Market Harborough dares from the early 13th century when King John granted the first charter. The town retains many attractive historical building, including the old grammar school and the Three Swans Hotel.

The Grand Union Canal first came to Foxton in 1809, connecting Market Harborough to Leicester. It was later extended to Northampton via the flight of ten locks visited in several walks. The walks lie mainly in the Welland Valley and two cross the River Ise, a tributary of the River Nene.
