The routes include coastal and riverside walks, visits to attractive villages steeped in history, and some gentle climbs to fine views. Explore Mersea Island and the coast at Goldhanger; stretches of the popular Essex Way at Pleshey; the River Colne at Aldham; and the rolling countryside and woodland around Navestock Side.

Each pub is described in full, with a photograph and details of its history and character. Also included is information on how to get there, OS Explorer map sheet number, the parking facilities, food specialities and the range of ales served. The detailed route finding instructions include a coloured sketch map with numbers referring to paragraphs in the text. Information is also provided about places of interest nearby.
