New Forest Walks - A Time Traveller's Walking Guidebook

New Forest Walks - A Time Traveller's Walking Guidebook

author: Andrew Walmsley
This book contains details of sixteen New Forest walks, all specially designed to illustrate the area's long, rich, and fascinating history. It includes many full colour atmospheric photographs illustrating the New Forest landscapes and encouraging the reader to explore. Distances for the standard walks range from 4 to 10.5 kilometres, although many shortcuts are also detailed, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

An introductory chapter provides a short history of the New Forest over the centuries, plus a walks overview and some practical advice and public transport information. Many routes are accessible by public transport, whilst others start from locations around the periphery of the New Forest, avoiding the busier centre.

Each walk begins with a panel providing all the essential practical information including start, distance, time, refreshments, terrain, difficulty rating, suitability for buggies, public transport availability, and alternative start locations. Next follows a 'setting the scene' section providing information about all the features to be encountered on the walk. This is probably best read before commencing the walk as it is quite detailed. Then follows the route navigation instructions, clearly written in numbered paragraphs referenced to a coloured sketch map.
