Monsal Trail - A Selection of 8 Walks /guidebook

by: Louise Maskill and Mark Titterton
The eight circular walks in this book will guide you along the length of the Monsal Trail and around many of the surrounding footpaths and bridleways, exploring the area and introducing you to some of the Peak District's most beautiful, tranquil and historic limestone dales.

The Monsal Trail follows an 8.5 mile section of the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, opened by the Midland Railway in 1863 to link Manchester with London. The line was closed in 1968 and remained derelict for a number of years before being taken over by the Peak District National Park and re-opened as a walking route. The resent renovation of the Chee Tor tunnels means that the entire section of track is now accessible on foot.

There is introductory text to the area surrounding each walk, clear route instructions and excellent full colour mapping based upon Ordnance Survey 1:2500 scale to help you on your way. Complete all 8 walks and you will have covered the entire Monsal Trail. The book has numerous full colour photographs illustrating features of the walks. Each walk begins with a 'basics' panel giving distance, time, starting point, parking, path description summary and any refreshment options.

The walk locations are as follows:
Bakewell Station and the Chatsworth Estate - 6.5 miles
Bakewell Station, Haddon Hall and Lathkill Dale - 8 miles
Hassop Station, Ashford in the Water and Bakewell - 6 miles
Monsal Head and Little and Great Longstone - 5.25 miles
Monsal Head and Monsal Dale - 3.5 miles
