Kiddiwalks in the Peak District Guidebook

Kiddiwalks in the Peak District Guidebook

by: John and Anne Nuttall
This guidebook contains 20 walks devised especially with children in mind. Great for a family outing, each route is packed with fun things to see and do along the way. There are birds to spot, ducks to feed, standing stones and caves to investigate, ancient hillforts and ruins to conquer. The routes are circular, between 1 and 5 miles in length with not too many hills and climbs. Some are suitable for pushchairs. Each walk features places for refreshment from picnic sites to cafes and family-friendly pubs. The guide is printed in full colour with photographs, background notes, 'things to do' sections and practical information such as getting to the start and parking.

There is plenty to interest children en route. Scramble up Crook Hill and see the breathtaking view from the twin gritstone peaks; see the boulders at Dovestone Reservoir, said to be the result of two giants fighting; look for wildlife and flowers along the disused Hayfield railway line, now the Sett Valley Trail and the Longdendale Trail; and visit the monument of the Duke of Wellington, hero of Waterloo and inventor of the famous Wellington boot.
