County Durham and the Eden Valley 40 Favourite Walks

County Durham and the Eden Valley 40 Favourite Walks

authors: Alastair and Matthew Ross
Some of the wildest and most unspoilt scenery to be found anywhere in England, as well as some of the most peaceful and picturesque, can be discovered between the eastern Lake District and the Durham coast. The 40 walks in this guidebook take in the beautiful but often overlooked Eden Valley, the high heather-clad Pennine fells and the three great rivers of the North East, the Tyne, Wear and Tees, as well as the farmland and former industrial heartlands of County Durham. Along the way there are upland waterfalls, lush meadows, blustery mountain summits and coastal cliffs, as well as palaces, castles and country estates to explore and enjoy.

Each walk entry begins with at-a-glance details of distance, time, terrain, parking and public transport access where available. Clear route-finding instructions are provided together with simple overview coloured sketch maps, but OS Explorer map sheet numbers are also provided. The text also includes brief notes on features of interest along the way and there are colour photographs throughout.

The walks are arranged into five geographical sections as follows:
East Fellside and the Eden Valley
Barnard Castle and Teesdale
South Tynedale, Allendale and Derwentside
Bishop Aukland and Weardale
Durham Vale and Coast
