The Western Yorkshire Dales - 10 Leisure Walks Guidebook

The Western Yorkshire Dales - 10 Leisure Walks Guidebook

by: Keith Wood
The Western Dales lie on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park roughly between Kirkby Lonsdale in the north to Skipton in the south running along the busy A65 trunk road. The area includes Yorkshire's famous 'Three Peaks' country featuring the highest peaks in the county. These walks visit famous landmarks such as Malham Cove and Goredale Scar and the subsidiary valleys including Ribblesdale, Clapdale, Twisleton and Dentdale. The Western Dales offers both easy and more challenging walking in the magnificent limestone surroundings with valley walks, waterfalls in abundance and an ascent of the magnificent Ingleborough.

The walks have been selected with the majority being short and easy; suitable for a half day with the family, but also including a couple more challenging walks to give a taste of the fell walking also available. All the walks in this guide are circular and begin at a car park or safe parking location with the grid reference provided. Public transport options are given where available. The walks are graded from easy to challenging. Distance and a short description of the terrain are also provided. Clear route directions are provided together with simple sketch maps. The book is well illustrated throughout with colour photographs. The handy size also means it will slip easily into your pocket, protected by the tough cover.

The walk locations are:
Malham Cove and Goredale Scar - 4.5 miles
Malham Tarn and Cove - 3.75 miles
