Walking Close to North West Norfolk Guidebook

Walking Close to North West Norfolk Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are simple and detailed and include clear pencil drawn sketch maps.

This guide describes twelve varied and interesting circular walks in the countryside close to the coast of North West Norfolk around Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea. The walks are between 4 and 7 miles in length. The Norfolk coastline west of Wells, round to Snettisham, consists mainly of saltmarsh and sand dunes, broken only by the horizontal striped cliffs at Hunstanton. The suffix 'next-the-Sea' at Wells and Holme now looks a little forlorn as the sea has left them far behind. The British naval hero Lord Nelson was born in Burnham Thorpe in 1758.

The walk locations are:
Brancaster and Brancaster Staithe - 5.5 miles
Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham - 4.5 miles
Ringstead Common - 5.25 miles
Great Bircham and Bircham Newton - 6.5 miles
Burnham Norton and Burnham Overy Staithe - 6 miles
Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Park - 6.75 miles
Old Bottom, near Anmer (GR TF 761284) - 4.25 miles

Burnham Thorpe and Nelson's Birthplace - 5 miles
Snettisham and Sedgeford - 5 miles
