Walking Close to Glastonbury Guidebook

Walking Close to Glastonbury Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical. This guide focuses on Glastonbury and the City of Wells with ten walks, varying in length from 5 miles to 7 miles in length.

Glastonbury features strongly in Arthurian mythology. It claims to be the mystical Island of Avalon where Arthur was sent after being mortally wounded in his final battle with his nephew Mordred. The myth advocates the theory that he did not die. Arthur's search for the Holy Grail also fits well with the legend of Joseph bringing Christ's chalice from the Holy Land to be buried in the Glastonbury area.

The walk locations are:
Glastonbury and Glastonbury Tor - 5.75 miles
Wedmore and Blackford - 5 miles
Wells and Biddle Combe - 5.25 miles
Street and Small Moor - 5.25 miles
West Pennard and Bradley Brook - 7 miles
Cheddar and Tyning's Gate - 5.75 miles
Wookey and Coxley Wick - 6.5 miles
Ebbor Wood and Easton - 6 miles
