Walk Windermere and Hawkshead Guidebook

Walk Windermere and Hawkshead Guidebook

author: Bill Birkett
Windermere is the longest lake in England. With its head in the north, nestling below the fells of south Lakeland, it stretches southwards some eleven miles to a foot which rests between tree-clad heights. At its widest point it is about a mile across and along its length it cuts through a sylvan landscape overtopped by fine fells. Out of sight, both to the west and east, are hidden valleys, a little lake, rolling hills, hanging tarns, tiny hamlets, scattered historic villages, and a wealth of forest. By footpath, bridleway, track, and mountain highway, this is the world explored by this walking guidebook.

Each walk begins with a summary panel providing an overview of the walk features. There is also a 'Fact file' panel giving all the practical information required. The route is clearly described together with a sketch map. There are also stunning colour photographs of views and places visited on the walk. The routes are colour coded according to difficulty:
Green for a short valley walk.
Blue for a low fell walk.
Brown for an intermediate fell walk up to 700m altitude.
Red for a high fell walk up to 1000m altitude.
